Though we all have heard about Ayurveda treatments and tips from our parents and grandparents, but do we realize its true worth? In our modernized and fast-paced lives, advanced medicine is what we turn to the moment our body deviates from its usual healthy regimen. Little did we realise that what we have been ignorant about is a science which is more than 5000 years old and is a base of Tibetan, Greek, and traditional Chinese medicine.
Ayurveda was suppressed during foreign invasions but it has reinvigorated not only in its native place but in many parts of the globe. With the help of the Indian government and institutions, Ayurveda has gained popularity among a growing population of health-conscious individuals all over the world.
‘Ayurveda’ which means “The science of life”, is a science of natural healing unlike any other, offering a unique approach to health care in the form of self-discovery. It places great emphasis on prevention and encourages the maintenance of health through close attention to balance in one’s life, right thinking, diet, lifestyle and the use of herbs.
Ayurveda can help correct imbalances that may be cropping up in us and our kids and also it has the potential to set our children on a lifelong path toward optimal health and well-being.
Unfortunately, our culture’s obsession with speed, efficiency, and ease is eclipsing some of the timeless wisdom. This wisdom has helped to keep us in tune with the cycles of the seasons, our own circadian rhythms, and eating seasonally-appropriate foods. Ayurveda works with the cycles of life and the rhythms of the natural world in order to foster strength, resilience, and vibrant health.
Uniqueness
Ayurveda is a unique system of medicine which does not profess one-size-fits-all solutions, but rather honours and celebrates each individual. One of the core principles of Ayurveda is that each of us is born with a distinct constitution—a particular combination of vata, pitta, and kapha—that is completely unique to each of us. Here is a brief orientation about the doshas
- Vata is the energy of air and ether, movement and impulse, creativity and connection. It governs breathing, the pulsation of the heart, muscle movement in general, nerve impulses, sensory perception, communication, and our capacity to experience flexibility, joy, and expansive consciousness.
- Pitta is the energy of fire and water, digestion and transformation; it governs appetite, digestion, absorption, assimilation, intelligence, charisma, courage, and ambition.
- Kapha is the energy of water and earth, structure and cohesiveness, grounding and stability. It governs nourishment, growth, lubrication, regeneration, fluid balance, fat regulation, strength, stamina, memory, and our ability to feel compassion and contentment.
Every human’s body has all three doshas. But different individuals have different proportions of each one, and most of us are predominant in one or two of them.
Prakriti
According to Ayurveda, one’s constitution (Prakriti) is established at conception, cemented at birth, and it remains constant over the course of a lifetime. It represents each individual’s natural state of equilibrium and provides a personal blueprint for optimal health. Our constitutions influence our physiology and physique, our likes and dislikes, our tendencies and habits, as well as our mental and emotional character.
Health Benefits of Ayurveda
Integrating Ayurveda into your life can be immensely beneficial to your overall sense of wellness. The areas in which Ayurveda can improve your health:
1. Getting to the root of the problem – The traditional practice of Ayurveda is used to treat the cause as opposed to the symptom. This is the reason why it’s considered to be preventative in nature compared to other forms of medicine. Ayurveda can show you how to stimulate your immune system and reduce the stress that leads to imbalances and illness, getting to the root of the problem.
2. Dincharya – Learning about Ayurveda can help you establish a dinacharya, or daily routine, to help you feel grounded, stable, and ready to start each day. Your daily routine might involve cleaning your tongue upon waking, practising some yoga or meditation daily, and soothing your system periodically with a loving oil massage.
3. Diet – Ayurveda has many diets and food combining suggestions to help maximize the Agni or digestive fire. Learning about your constitution and state of balance will help you determine which dietary choices are right for you.
4. Yoga – Certain asanas can have a cooling or heating effect on the body. Learning yoga poses would bring you optimal wellness.
5. Beauty – The Ayurvedic perspective on beauty focuses on the whole being, body, mind, and spirit. Ayurveda has tips for luscious hair, smooth skin, and more. Its holistic approach will leave you feeling beautiful from the inside out.
6.Sleep – A surprising number of life’s challenges are caused by imbalanced sleep. Whether you need to sleep more or less, Ayurvedic methods can help improve your waking hours by helping you get to bed peacefully and consistently.

The whole idea is to tell all you mommies that Ayurveda is a boon for mankind and that it can cure any sort of ailment if treated with perseverance and trust.
